Call for Speakers

Call for speakers for 2016 conference is now closed.

Conference theme:

TRANSFORMATION

Society . Communities . Products & services . The self

Design means so many things to different people. However, the ultimate outcome has always been to transform the world, little by little, to become a better place than it was before. In this conference, let us explore the fundamental impact that design has on our everyday lives across the 4 levels of transformation.

1. Society

Almost every designer fresh out of school dreams of making big impact and improving the lives of people at scale. What does it take to move mountains and nations?

2. Communities

How can we design for and with local communities in socially innovative ways that are inclusive, sustainable and empowering?

3. Products & services

Creating great products and services requires both strong design craft and delicate orchestration to align organisations. We will delve into the workings of crafting experiences that matter to people.

4. The self

As we aspire to transform our society, communities and the products and services we use, ultimately, how must we transform ourselves so that we can produce the intent and actions for good in this world?

Conference Philosophy

The bi-annual (used to be annual) UXSG conference is an excellent opportunity for experienced practitioners from different walk of lives to share the wealth of their knowledge and experience with the community at large.

We believe a good conference is about making it feel personal, and curating the knowledge-sharing so that it is relevant to the community and their learning needs. We are looking for speakers who are approachable, inspiring and engaging – people who will stay throughout the conference, join attendees for drinks and initiate meaningful conversations.

Conference Submission

We’re looking for passionate, experience practitioners to explore the Transformation theme through your submission and deliver an informative, engaging and practical session for our attendees.

We have three opportunities for you to consider: 1-hour keynote presentation, 3-hour workshop and a 1-hour lightning talk presentation.

WHY submit?

You will have the opportunity to speak at a fun, nicely curated UX conference in the ever-emerging market in Singapore. It is also an excellent way to meet professionals from different industries and build meaningful relationships with your peers. Your session information will also be posted online as part of your career portfolio (if you wish).

WHO can submit

Anyone! We welcome you to share your knowledge, whether you’re in an agency or in-house team, though we will expect you to have significant experience in the topic you are submitting to be considered as a keynote speaker or workshop facilitator. You can present the topic as an individual or represent your organisation.

We welcome submissions from around the world as you can attest from our past speakers lineup. As long you have a compelling story to tell about our practice, we want to hear from you!

WHAT topics are we are looking for?

The topic submitted must be closely associated with one of the four aspects of the main theme, the content presented must be your work or project(s) that you are personally involved in. Citing case studies of another organisation will not be accepted.

What information will the conference organisers provide to help me prepare the presentation?

We will provide a high-level attendees profile (e.g. job roles, experience level etc) who have signed up for the conference at the point of time, together with our insights on the UX scene in Singapore (and SE Asia region) to give you context to curate your presentation materials.

We will be happy to schedule time for you to ask any questions, seek suggestions or ideas, presentation coaching via conference calls and/or face-to-face meetings. Our goal is to provide as much support as we can to help you to deliver an engaging, insightful and relevant presentation to our attendees.

How will submissions be reviewed?

Proposals will be made anonymous by a Submissions Manager, then reviewed blindly by 3 members of the UXSG team who are experienced practitioners. The review process will take 2-3 weeks depending on the volume of submissions.

Priority will be given to proposals that:

  • explore this year’s conference theme Transformation
  • are informative, practical and interesting
  • are original and not promoting a product, vendor or yourself

The selection process is sometimes difficult. Many excellent submissions are typically received for a limited number of spots. Please keep in mind that the reviewers are donating their time as volunteers to help the community. Making their job as easy as possible will enhance your chances of selection.

What is the deadline for the submissions?

30 April 2016, 12 midnight Singapore time.

When will I know my submissions have / have not been accepted?

We’ll be reviewing submissions and target to complete by 24 May 2016, and we’ll let you know whether your submission has been chosen by 31 May 2016 when we announce the final program.
