Call for Volunteers

UXSG Conference 2016 is a two-and-half day event organised by the local UX community – UXSG, and takes place from 7–9 September 2016 at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition. The conference theme is Transformation, and expects to attract over 500 local and foreign participants from a wide ranging field of professions and industries.

UXSG Conference 2016 is organised by a team of all-volunteer planning and execution members. The volunteer team consists of experienced practitioners, young professionals and students. Our goal is to create and deliver a truly unique and memorable experience for all conference participants.

Volunteers can expect to gain experience in the following areas:

  • Conference planning and curation
  • Spatial, service and digital experience design
  • Marketing communications (including social media)
  • Coordination with speakers, sponsors and partners
  • Pre-conference logistics planning & preparation
  • Conference setup and registration
  • Conference ushering and ambassadorship
  • Conference teardown
  • And more!

WHO are we looking for?

We are looking for enthusiastic and committed volunteers to make the event happen again! The positions are opened to local tertiary students,  young professionals and seasoned practitioners.

WHAT do we expect from you?

You will agree to a UXSG Volunteer contract which consists of the following:

  • Attend an orientation session
  • Able to commit an average of 4 – 8 hours per month leading up to the conference
  • Able to work and coordinate with fellow volunteers remotely
  • Work towards meeting agreed deadlines for assigned tasks
  • Show up on time for tasks, and be punctual for all meetings and activities
  • Participate in most of the co-design and prototyping sessions
  • Available from 6 – 9 September 2016 for setup and serve stipulated roles assigned during the conference

One thing we would like you to know upfront – being a conference volunteer is about hard work and commitment regardless of how ‘organised‘ you are, how ‘resourceful‘ you are or how ‘smart‘ you might be. Everyone has to roll up their sleeves to work with each other.

WHEN are you expected to start?

Volunteers are expected to commit their time from as early as February 2016 to be involved in the planning stage. The tasks assigned will be discussed among the core volunteer team members. There are no fixed meeting dates at present but you can expect pre-event preparation to intensify in the lead up to the conference, so please be prepared to further avail yourself in the last two weeks of August 2016.

WHY should you join?

The UXSG Conference 2016 planning team isn’t simply organising an event about UX – it also uses UX best practices and methodologies in preparing for the conference. By joining us as a volunteer, you will get a firsthand look at what it means to be a UX practitioner.

As our volunteers from past conferences can attest, we are committed to providing you with a fun and unique hands-on learning experience, along with the opportunity to learn together as a team. Not only is this is a journey that contributes to the growth of the UX community in Singapore, but also benefits your own personal growth and development.

HOW do I apply?

Please fill in the UXSG Conference 2016 Volunteer Form application form to register your interest as a conference volunteer. You will need to briefly share why you wish to join us, your intended learning goals and a couple other questions for us to know more about you. Shortlisted candidates will be notified by email and interviewed prior to confirmation of service.

For students who wish to consider volunteering for the conference, do note that volunteering with UXSG Conference 2016 is not a part of your school curriculum. All time and effort contributed is solely at your own undertaking and for your personal educational development.

The volunteer application was closed on Sunday, 31 January 2016.

If you have any questions about joining us as a conference volunteer, email us at [email protected]. We look forward to receiving your application!
