Founders, Lanzavecchia + Wai Design Studio

Lanzavecchia + Wai is a design consultancy helmed by Francesca Lanzavecchia and Hunn Wai.?

Wai hails from the south-east Asian island state of Singapore, educated as an industrial designer at the National University of Singapore while Lanzavecchia received her BA in Product Design from Politecnico di Milano, Italy. They began their cooperation at the Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands, where both graduated with Masters in Design under the direction of Gijs Bakker, co-founder of Droog Design.

Their main interest lies in the relationships objects have and can have with the human body and soul as well as having a fervent eye for future trends. They are also fascinated by the collisions and fusions of materials, meanings and forms.

To them, being designers means being researchers, engineers, craftsmen and story-tellers all at the same time.

Their recent accomplishments include being awarded ?Young Design Talent of the Year? by Elle Decor International Design Prize 2014, winners of the AgustaWestland Helicopter VIP Interior Competition and being shortlisted for Wallpaper* Design Awards 2013 ? ?Life-enhancer of the Year? for their MonoLight table lamp.

Phygital : The Future of Seating
products and services

In the digital world, most experiences are generated and delivered via audiovisual devices, and interfaced via keyboards, controllers and exponentially in recent years, touchscreens.

While audio and visual cues are the most direct formats of stimuli and response, there is unexplored potential in touch and tactility, hard-wired gestures and postures (therefore affecting state of mind and mood) when the human body interacts with physical objects. How do we relook, rethink and introduce physicality into digital UX? How can this be mapped out, categorized, and then choreographed towards meaningful, powerful and contextualized Phygital Experiences? What new experiences can the user have in-context? What new data sets can be captured as an intended result, for the business?

We will seek to answers these questions in this workshop, as you will :

  • Look at how Phygital Experience can reconcile the gap between the Physical and the Digital in the domains of Work, Healthcare, Fitness and Hospitality.
  • Write stories of the products, services and experiences of the Phygital tomorrow
  • Utilise seating and its rituals as a vehicle to imagine new experiences
